Why Should Small Businesses Hire a Professional Copywriter?

Let’s get real for a second. Yes, I’m a copywriter. Yes, I’m looking for clients. Yes, I want you to hire me. Full disclosure right there.

But I’m also looking to help you with your small business. It’s not all about the money for me (though I do like to eat as anyone who has checked out my Instagram will know…). In fact, I’m most excited to work with small businesses and creative entrepreneurs who need support to grow into their full potential.

I want to be that support! I want to yell “I gotchu!” from the rooftops! I want to help you take your business and your creative ventures to the absolute tippiest top of Badass Success Mountain.

I get it, though! I was in your shoes once where the thought of hiring out and spending money made me either start hyperventilating into a paper bag or add a really inappropriate amount of bourbon to my 8 am coffee. The money stress is real!

It’s one of those self-fulfilling prophecies, unfortunately. You don’t want to spend extra money (or feel like you can’t), so you do the work yourself. This takes away your time and keeps you from doing the really important things, the things you’re passionate about, the things you started a business for in the first place!

This is why hiring a professional is so important! Let’s take a closer look at some of the reasons you should hire a copywriter for your small business.

Get More Reach

Let’s start with the nitty gritty of what copy itself can do for your business. Copy is writing with the intent to persuade. You’ve seen copy all around you and probably haven’t realized! The words on a website? Copy. Email newsletters? Copy. Blogs? Copy. Online Sales pages? Copy. Product descriptions? Copy. You get the idea.

You need copy for your business to attract new leads and get yourself found online. To do this, you need to use keywords for SEO (search engine optimization). Good keywords help search engines crawl your site and help you rank.

As you know, business is a numbers game. The higher you rank, the more people will see your content. The more people see your content, the more connections you make and the more likely you are to make a sale or come in contact with someone who needs exactly what your small business has to offer.

This is why bringing someone on who knows the ins and outs of SEO and can do meaningful keyword research is so important. You’ll get more exposure for your business and have a stronger online presence.

Get More Time

Here’s the thing. You could write all your content yourself. You could hop onto Google and find plenty of tutorials on how to do keyword research and write something using SEO. Heck, you could shoot me an email and I’d be happy to answer any questions you have. The information is out there, and you absolutely could learn it.

But is that the best use of your time?

This is where we start getting into having a business owner mindset.

A business owner is not working day and night to put all the pieces together. A business owner knows the value of their time to work on the most important things and trusts experts to fill the gaps in their knowledge.

Hiring a copywriter for creative entrepreneurs is one of the best ways to take back control of your time and put your energy back where it belongs: into building your small business around your passions.

After all, that’s why you started your business. You had a passion for something. Don’t let that passion be sidelined by all the behind the scenes work. That’s the surest way to careen into burnout. Focus on what you are great at and what you love to do and bring someone on who can support you by taking on some of the other things.

Get More Value

When you hire a professional copywriter, you get more value for yourself and more value for your target audience. Why is this?

A copywriter’s job is to find the pain points that most resonate with your audience and show how you or your business or the product you create can make that pain go away. No one wants to be in pain, and when your audience knows exactly how you can help them, they are more willing to work with you.

Hiring a professional copywriter who knows how to dig into your audience’s deepest wants is the best way to make sure your message is clear.

This means that when your audience reads a blog or newsletter or landing page or even website text they are reading something that is uniquely tailored to them. They can quickly and easily understand just what exactly you can do for them to solve their problem. They understand the value you provide.

This creates more value for you, too. You don’t end up chasing so many of the wrong leads. The specific people you can help are more likely to discover you and come running. Notice how that dynamic is flipped? They run to you instead of you having to chase them. It’s much better for everyone, and everyone is happy.

So Why Hire a Copywriter?

It’s simple. A good copywriter will make your life easier by helping you reclaim your time, expand your reach, and increase the value you offer (and receive!).

The truth is, everyone can write, but not everyone can write well. And learning the skills and techniques needed to write great copy takes up time that could be better invested in other areas of your business. Your energy is more valuable doing the things and pursuing the passions that got you into business in the first place.

So take something off your plate. Reach out to someone who can support you. Then sit back, relax, and watch the words flow from your very own copywriter.
